THE POPE AND MULLER.

Hitherto it was understood that Captain von Muller, of the Emden, was released from England for intern, ment in Holland in pursuance of an agreement for exchange of all prisoners of war in captivity for 18 months (says the London Daily Mail). According to the Frankfurter Zeitung, Muller secured his liberty owing to the intervention of the Pope. "Papal intervention, it deserves to be specially mentioned, played an important role in the liberation of Captain Muller. It is a fact that Benedict XV, responding to an appeal made to him, used his good offices with the British Government on behalf of the captain of the Emden. The English Minister tc the Vatican eventually announced that the Papal wish had been granted. It is proper to acknowledge -with thanks the Pope's share in an affair which gratified every German."
