WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL AND THE BALLOT. RESOLUTION RESCINDED. WELLINGTON, this day. Recently tlie City Council decided that while regretting so many of its staff is being called up in the ballot, no appeals should be lodged on behalf of its employees. Last night, after ah animated discussion, "the Council decided, on a narrow majority, to rescind the previous resolution, and passed the following: “That while the Council affirms the principle that every man possible must be spared for service who may be drawn'tn the ballot, they feel that full discretionary powers be left with the chief officers to appeal for employees whose loss would seriously inconvenience the city’s works, believing the tribunal sent up by the Government can bo trusted to safeguard the country’s interests.”
