A SENTENCE QUASHED. AUCKLAND, May 14. In the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Cooper quashed a sentence of two months’ imprisonment passerby Mr Frazer, 5.M.,. on Walter Preston, on February Sth, on a charge that, being a bookmaker, ho did bet on Takapuna course. The ground of appeal was that the conviction was against the weight of evidence.. His Honour said the case was highly suspicious, but the evidence had not established that degree of comparative certainty that would have enabled him. to hold that Preston actually did bet on the day in question.
