FRANCE’S DENUNCIATION OF TREATIES.
Whilst the Kaiser and Co., have been bombastically talking iSdemnities and annexations oce more, and organising aftcr-the-war intrigues to get back their lost trade, the French have also been acting from the business point ofview. Everybody who can see farther than yesterday into the future must have read with delight the cabled .intimation that France Has cancelled all her pre-war commercial treaties. And as this action is believed to have the “complete agreement” of the Allies, It is a most important move —the one that Germany has most dreaded. The German warlords have bolstered up their merchants with the assurance that the Allies would never put the decisions of the Paris Convention into operation. And Britons the world over were beginning to think that the Germans had accurately forecast’ the future. But apparently France and Italy, appreciating the enemy’s ■ character better than do the Anglo-Saxon nations, have forced Britain’s hand. This decision will have more to do in hastening the end of the war than appears possible at a first glance especially as there is a dire threat to the neutral nations in the cancelling of the 52 comnfereial conventions entered into by France before the war. As to Fritz and his Austrian business partner, this determination of the Allies to enter into an economic, alliance against their enemies to come into operation right away is nothing short of disastrous
