A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
On last Thursday it was reported that a man had met with a very serious accident on the Mataroa Road. We made enquiries from the proper official quarters and were told that the rumour was without foundation. Since, it has been learned that Mr. P. J. McCann was returning to his home on Thursday midday, after 'attending the previous day's cattle fair, and that when about three miles from Taihapo his horse shied, throwing him very forcibly to the ground, where he lay face downwards. When: found the injured man was nearly suffocated, being quite unconscious and his mouth blocked with blood and the earth. Dr. Boyd was telephoned for and he was quickly on the scene, but Mr. McCann was too severely injured to permit of immediate treatment other than temporary. Mr. Donovan came along in his car and took the unfortunate man to the public hospital, where he lay for eight hours unconscious.
On inquiry at the hospital this morning we learn tnat Mr. McCann's condition is better *han yesterday, though still critical. The injuries sustained are mostly to the head.
