WAITING OVER THREE YEARS.
It would be difficult to find a precedent for the almost world-wide desire lor the settlement of the Irish question, (says the London “Daily Chronicle”). It animates the Empire, the United States, France, Italy, every nation with which our fortunes are linked. Yet the late Lord Selborne pictured Home Rule as sending a shudder through the world. Sir James Lacaita, the Anglicised Italian scholar and statesman, had assured Mm, he said, that the measure, if passed would lead to an agitation for the dismemberment of Italy, in Sicily first, and afterwards, not improbably 3n all the provinces which were formerly independent States! A hign authority tells us that but for the Irish trouble America would hav« |>een at our side in the war two years ago. Whatever truth there may be in the saying, it will be read with interest at the front and in the camps, where ’Americans and Britons are meeting. They are the very best of Driends, says an English officer, out humour will out, on both sides. “Hullo my coffee’s cold,” said a handsome young Yankee as he picked up his Cup. “Well, lad, it’s been waiting for you over three years,” retorted a Tommy with a twinkle. The American took it like a sportman, adds the marrator.
