WHITE PINE. NO EXPORT PERMITTED. WELLINGTON, April 24. Tv.-o interesting Ministerial statements on the subject of preserving the remaining supply of white pine for use in New Zealand appear in the answers to members' questions now being circulated. The Prime Minister informs Mr. Anderson that, with a view to conserving supplies of white pine for New Zealand requirements. Commissioners of Crown Lands have been instructed that future sales of white pine shall be conditional on its use for New Zealand requirements only, and not for export, whilst mining wardens have been requested to deal with white pine under their control similarly. This action, adds the Prime Minister, will lengthen the supply of white pine in the Dominion. ' ■ The future is dealt with in a reply to Mr. W. H. Field, Mr. Massey stating that for the past three years, with a view to providing for those industries requiring box timber, pinus radiata has been largely planted both in the South and North Islands. Poplars and willows are also being planted and some cuttings of specially quickgrowing varieties of the former have been imported, from Europe.
