IMPORTANT MEETINGS TO-NIGHT.
To-night, there are two important meetings taking place in Taihape, both being of considerable interest to the town and to the district. The annual meeting of the Taihape District Patriotic Society is to be held in tno supper room of the Town Hall, ana contributors to the fund, and the puolic generally are urgently asked to be present. The committee, and, more particularly, the executive, are anxious for them to know just how the fund is being administered, and learn the nature and extent of the good work that has been accomplishes. Minor complaints have been heard from time to time, none of which seem to have been justly founded. In any caso it is not fair or desirable that the men who have given their time gratuitously and to their own disadvantage, should be left to go on without some expression of opinion from contributors, and without others, who assisted to create the fund, coming to aid them in the work. A large fund has been built up to aid the brave follows who have fought, and are fighting our bat--tlf's, and as greater numbers of those men return its administration will be. come more .complex and difficult. Therefore, it is hoped the public will be present to-night to receive the m.--
I nual statement of accounts and to ! take part in the election of officers i who are to continue the good work | for the ensuing year. 1 The other meeting is the annual j gathering of householders at the pubi lie school, chiefly for the purpose of J electing a new School Committee, as provided for by statute, but also to receive an account of stewardship from the outgoing committee. During the last three years there has been evident J a growing interest in public schoo? matters, and it is saying something that at the last two annual meetings the attendance ha# been sufficient to elect a committee therefrom. The • trend of world events has demonstrated the great importance of education, and it is this feeling that Is spreading that accounts for the agitation in educational matters that is growingly persistent in this Dominion. Parents and the public generally are becoming mere intensely alive to I the importance of education and this j will no doubt be reflected in a still greater improvement on the attendance at all previous annual meetings.
