A VETERAN WAR-WORKER.
Mrs. Batt, who returned to Taihape after giving her services for a year or jn the Battenhall .Military Hospital at Worcester, England, has since her return done her utmost to help on the good work the hospital is doing. Mrs. Batt has just received the following letter of acknowledgment for money sent: — Dear Mrs. Batt, —I cannot tell you how surprised and delighted I was to receive your letter with another gift of £4 2s for Battenhall. I never expected such a thing after your other two (by the bye, I hope my letters thanking you have reached you safely, one can never be sure now-a-days). You are indeed good to this hospital; I do thank you both from myself and also from the patients who benefit by your kindness; we are all most grateful. I used one of your gifts (the £3 17s 6d) in presents for the Christmas Tree wihch we had on New Year’s Day. I wish you could have been here, I know you would have enjoyed it as we all did. We had real nonsense, like a lot of children, and we laughed till we were nearly ilj; the men said it was the 1 best Christmas party they had ever had. And now, your third gift within a very few weeks will he very useful ,for expenses are terribly high and it is difficult to make both ends meet. I am glad to say though, far, we have been able to get all the food we need, though of course, we are’ very careful. Mrs. Winter was here when your letter came, so of course I told her about it and you can guess that we talked about you and said how we miss you here. Will you please thank Mr. McLennan for so kindly allowing the Red Cross box to he in the hotel, we appreciate it very much.—Yours sincerely, D. Ogilvy.
