THe~ “Gaztr ette” containing tbe names will be issued dn Thursday, 'April 25. Speaking in tbe House on Mdndky, Sir James Allen, Defence Minister, said: With regard to the ballot for B class they proposed to take 10,000 men in this ballot out of a total of 18.000 or 19,000 men in the class, or a i.ltle more than half. By this he exvected to get enough men to fill all the shipping available up to August or September. It might be possible to secure some further shipping, In which case they might be able to send a few more men away. Probably it would be necessary to consider sine fiie cases still further. (Hear, hear). They had been reviewed recently, and som 840 had been ordered intd camp, leaving btween 6000 and 7000 sine die men, most of whom were engaged in essential industries, such as coal miners, men in marine work, a certain number of farmers, and all hardship cases. It was also proposed to review cases given leave for certain definite periods, as they were wanted now rather earlier than was at first intended. ‘Mr. Field (Otaki): Is there going to be any further examination of rejected men? Sir James Allen replied that most ■of the C2 men had been re-examined. He did not think it advisable to reexamine those men by special military board. As regarded the Second Division, it was proposed to make the medical examination more" strict, to avoid the necessity of revising any cases declared to be C2 men.
