GERMAN INFLUENCE. Received 9.10 a.m. WASHINGTON, April 17.. Germany is insidiously endeavouring to alienate Spanish sympathy from the Allies. Semi-official advices state that Germany is striving by promises and threats to cut off supplies which Spain promised to send to the American troops on the West front. The powerful undercurrent of German influence in Spain is reflected in the subsidised newspaprs, which declare that Spain would prefer civil war rather than war against Germany.
