THE LAST FEW HOURS.
If there are any who can afford it that have not yet done what they ' ought to do towmrds winning the war volunj tarily they have a ’few hours left yet. This evening they can telephone or telegraph to the local post office, or 'to the post 'office in Wellington, the amount they 'can lend towards ending the awful crisis that is hanging over the British Empire. Let every man and woman consult their consciences; let them realise that self at this moment can only bo reached through victory for the Empire; that victory can only be assured by everyone doing his or her utmost to achieve it. Let them also realise that if they do not do their duty voluntarily it must and wall bo forced upon them. Those who have upwards of seven hundred pounds taxable income will be compelled to contribute to the War Loan at 3 per cent; why-hesitate while yet there is time to get the 4-1 per cent, free of income tax? Power is being given in the Finance Act this session to compel the Commissioner of Taxes to surrender to the Government full details of every man’s income who has not contributed to the War Loan, and those without conscience will undoubtedly receive a great shock, , The post office letter box is open till midnight, and those who cannot get in before the post office and banks close can post a letter stating what they arc prepared to lend.
