THIEF’S UNWITTING HAUL.
SACKS CONTAINING £4O. STOLEN FROM CHINESE GARDEN. A sum of £4O in silver, a portion of the hoard of a Chinese market gardener named Quong Sing, living in Rugby Road. Three Kings, Auckland, was stolen recently in a somewhat peculiar mannerj The Chinaman, fearing that his money might be stolen if he kept it in the house ,placed it among various bundle of about 500 sacks, among which was stored the £4O. Sums of £IOO in silver, and £7O in notes which werp stored in other bundles, fortunately, were not touched A Chinese labourer was sleeping in the shed on the night of tho robbery, but he was not disturbed by the intruders. This is attributed to the fact that each night other workers in the garden aro accustomed to feed the horses in the stable, adjoining tho shed, and if the sleeper heard any noise he would think it came from his fellow-labourers at work.
