AMERICAN PREPARATIONS IN FRANCE.
Describing a visit to the American, base depot in France, a correspondent says: Here has been built a giant; laundry in which all the washing /of the entire American expeditionary; force could be done at once if necessary. Here is an old repairing station where thousands of French,, seamstresses repair Sammy's old clothes and use the spare parts of tattered uniforms for cholera bands, the new B'elgian style winter "kepis'** and in patching up reclaimable uniforms. Here is the machine shop where machine guns, rifles. and artillery are repaired by hundreds of skilled •machinists. Here is the greatest cold storage plant in the world. Its dimen-r sions are greater than any known ill* America or in Europe. Tracks lead"; to dozens of giant. warehouses where arc stored sugar, flour, and canned!' goods by the thousands of tons. Nearby artillery and caterpillar guns are assembled. And in a city not so faraway the first American tanks are ing designed.
