VALEDICTORY
A very successful function tvas held at Mataroa on Friday evening last, when the residents of the district assembled to bid good-bye to Trooper S. Sinclair, and Privates T. ' Roberts, F. Wallace, and L. Connolly, who were on final leave and were returning to camp prior to embarking for active service. The send-off took the form of a social and dance, the hall being pack?d. The floor was very good, and the music excellent, being in the capable hands of Miss Troy, assisted by Mrs. Jones and Misses Sinclair, and O'Connor. Mr. P. Troy filled the position of MC.
During the evening Mr. Whitehead, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented the departing soldiers with some very suitable presents, and in doing so voiced the respect and esteem in which the recipients were held by the donors. He wished them every success and a safe return. His remarks were greeted with applause by those present. Trooper Sinclair, and Privates Roberts, Wlalace. arid Connolly in turn rosponded, thanking the people of Mataroa for their presents and kindly sentiments. At the conclusion of their remarks they received a hearty round of applause. The four boys are very well arid favourably known throughout this district and the best wishes of all will accompany them to take their share in fighting the Empire's battles. • Dancing was kept going vigorously until a late hour, and a most enjovable evening was spent
