LABOUR IN THE FUTURE.
Mr. Charles M. Schwab, head of America's greatest steel corporation, declared at New York the other day that the time is at hand "when the men of the working class —the men without property —will control the destinies of the world. The Bolsheviki sentiment must be taken into consideration," Mr. Schwab declared, "and in the very near future we must look to the worker for a solution of the great economic questions now being considered. I am not one to carelessly turn over my belongings for the uplift of the nation, but I am one who has come to a belief that the workers will rule, and the sooner we realise this the better it will be for our country and the world at large. In these times of war we of America should not criticise the actions of our President and of our nation. We are behind him, and we are behind the nation. When I say 'we,' I mean the steel men of the United States. Within the next eighteen months we will have more tonnage on the ocean than all the nations in the world. Bui don't let us run away Avith the idea that we have a light job on our hands. We must realise that it is the duty of every citizen to give his last dollar and his last drop of blood in defence of his country. I am not discouraged and I am not pessimistic, but we must contribute our money as we never contributed before. We must forget our personal ambitions, and stand by our nation. Let us place dependency upon our Government and our cause."
