The cost of printing paper in London has gone up tremendously, but the cost of advertising has More than kepft pace. Some of the London newspapers are now obtaining fabulous prices for advertising, and the tradesmen aTe more than ever realising the .value of newspaper advertising. For instance, in November last the ’’Daily Mirror” advertising rate was £IOO per column, and the “ Sunday Pictorial” £2OO per column.
The chances of a much-needed gen- . oral election look Small. Too many M.P/s arc dependent on the assistance, financial and otherwise, given by the recognised parties to object very vigorously to the shameful evasion of popular rights and the violation of the constitution that the avoidance of an election causes. The Cabinet is so certain of its ability to bamboozle the electors that it is even contemptuous now of popular opinion at all. It can, t however, find time to draft a liquor bill to foist State control on the people. Every citizen in the Dominion ought to write or wire the Cabinet and the M.P ’s urging an election. At least let us make a protest against this mockery of Democracy.
