It is apparent from a letter received from the Hon. Mr. Guthrie that, while £SOO is tho amount to be advanced to soldier settlers in ordinary cases, the Minister has power to advance up to £750, when he is satisfied that such an increase is required to give the'soldier a proper chance of success.
