GERMANS DOPED WITH RUM WHEN SENT TO THE ATTACK. PARIS, March 20. The Australians at the Warneton Hill sector had a curious experience. They hoard strange sounds, oaths, and altercations beyond the enemy’s wire facing them. Inevstigating the position they encountered 100 Germans staggering drunk and tearing their uniforms against the wires. They offered small resistance, and were captured. When sobered they stated that they were detailed to make a raid, and threatened to be shot unless they did so. They were doped with rum and sent forward like a herd or cattle, while machine-guns threatened them in the rear. AN AMERICAN RAID. Received 8.50. LONDON, March 21. The Americans raided the Germans at Toul, and desperate hand-to-hand fighting took place . TERRIFIC BOMBARDMENT BEGUN Received 8.5 d. LONDON, March 21. A terrific bombardment has begun along most of the British front. ENEMY ADVANCING ON CAMERA!. Received 10.25. LONDON, March 21. The Germans are reported to be advancing at several points in thA Cambrai front. v • A French communique states there is artillery activity between Malette and the Aisne, also in the Champagne, at the Meuse, and in Arroy Wood, in the Woevre district. At Boisbriele the enemy heavily attacked. After a stiff fight we ejected parties which had gained a footing in advanced elements. Our aeroplanes dropped thirteen tons of bombs behind the enemy’s line. A number, of ..explosions and two fires were.observed.
