A QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED.

“May I ask why you have adopted the word ‘ Heezno ’ as the registered name for Hean’s Essence?” was the question put to Mr Hoan the other day. “I am glad you askeed me that,” was the answer, “as it gives me an opportunity of telling readers why I

have taken a step that seems to be puzzling not a few. The fact of the matter is, I have changed the name of Hean’s Essence to Hcenzo (which word I have registered as trade mark) in order to protect the public against imitations of my preparation. “The success achieved by Iloan’s Essence has brought to light quite a number of persons who arc seeking to make money at the expense of the public and myself. There have been discovered no less than seven imitators at work putting up inferior substitutes. If they had put up a cough mixture essence bearing their own name I would have had no quarrel with tlicm, but in every instance they adopted a fictitious name of one syllabic only so that it might be easily confused with my name. Against some of these I have obtained New Zealand Supreme Court injunctions restraining them from further infringements of my rights. Others have discontinued imitating Hean’s Essence without having to go to court.

“The trade-marking of the word ‘llcenzo,’ and its appearance on the cartons and bottles of all my preparations in future will safeguard buyers against piracy. It is worthy of mention just here that several of the imitations of Hcan’s Essence were such in name only. Upon analysis they were found to bo largely composed of paregoric and laudanum, exetracts of the deadly habit forming opium drug, the inclusion of which in cough mixtures cannot bo too strongly discouraged. "I hope the public will fully realise the importance of availing themselves of the protection which the trademark ‘ Hecnzo ’ will afford thcm_ Of course, there is still a good deal of genuine Hean’s Essence distributed through the country which does not bear the trade mark name on the cartons and labels; but this will soon all be used up, and the name ‘Hecnzo” will quicky become as familiar as Hoan’s Essence is now.”
