WAITED FOR HIS WASHING.
A story of how German officers are surrendering is told by an American officer just returned from the British front to the headquarters of the American army in France. The Yankee officer had been undergoing instructions at the front with the British forces. It seems that oae night a German officer crawled across No Man's Land to the British wire where the American was training! raised his hands and cried "Comrade " The British soldiers covered him with sheir rifles, whereupon the German said: "Excuse m e if I i ower m hands, as I've got a package here" The surprised American ana Britishers granted the request, and the German dropped into the trench. i n . n i s hands he had a packet of laundry. He said he had decided to surrender a week before, but had waited till his laundry came back!
