NEW ZEALAND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
RUAPEHU BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Ruapehu Branch of the N.Z.E.I. was held last Saturday in the Taihape School, Mr. J. Thurston being in the chair. The secretary, Mr. Gdldsbury, read a report, which showed that the membership of the branch is 33, and that its finances are in a very satisfactory condition. In view of the fact that the Educational Institute is increasing its levies upon the branches it was decided to adopt the following rates of subscription:—Salary under £2OO a subscription of 15s; unuer £3OO, 17/6; over £3OO, £l. The following officers were elected for 1918: President, Mr. J. Thurston; vice presidents, Messrs T. B. Haydon and P. G. Lewis; secretary and treasurer, M. Goldsbury; auditor, Mr. Wilson; reporter, Mr. P. G. Lewis; Committee, Misses McPhee, Stevens, McColl, Messrs Wilson, H. Goldsbury, and Fitzgerald. It "was decided to hold a meeting of the committee shortly to prepare for a campaign which has for its object the stressing of the claims cf national education.
