The Red Cross Shop to-day is in charge of the Ruanui residents, and a very comprehensive display has been made. On the footpath is a table containing a splendid collection of vegetables, some of which would not disgrace a show bench. In the shop and on a table at the entrance are very tempting displays of cakes and other comestibles that appeal toTae palate. The specimens of fancy work are very artistic and beautiful. The band of willing attendants have had a very busy time during the day. .
Some months ago, when the prospects of labour for harvesting-were not too bright, the Rangitikei County Council gave its roadmen permission to assist the farmers with their harvesting operations. The results were very satisfactory, and the valuable help given by the roadmen in saving the crops was greatly appreciated. The farmers are now giving a e;nid pro quo. Bridges and culverts with concrete pipes required renewing in some parts, and, according to the" report of Mr. A. Thorns, road Imspector for the county, the farmers, who are over the harvest, are helping the roadmen to do the work. This is the true spirit of co-operation.
All young people between the ages of M and 17, and others interested, are asked to note that classes at the local Technical School will commence on Monday, 11th inst., at 7 p.m. The subjects of instruction include English, arithmetic, bookkeeping, shorthand, typing, cooking, dressmaking and woodwork. Pupils who have gained a VI Standard of Proficiency and who are over the age of 17 are entitled to free instruction, providing they take English and arithmetic-; AH pother pupils may be enrolled on the first evening cf instruction by payment of a nominal fee, particulars of which may be obtained from the Director. The time-table of the various classes wjjll appear' in Monday's issue' of this paper. Compulsory free place piipil's arc also' requested to enrol on the "first' evening oh which their re-' spective clases commence.'
