The United Press correspondent at Petrograd states that all newspapers regard Hertling’s, Balfour’s and Sonnino’s speeches as indicating a compromise at Russia’s expense . The proposed Japanese intervention is regarded as a blow against the revolution.
The Russians have appointed a Defence Council, consisting of Commissaries Schultko, Bron, Chbrujevitch, and ProSchain.
Refugees say the Germans have shot and hanged twenty Russian citizens at Zurieff.
The Bolsheviks say that France has moved the American Embassy to personally ask the Norwegian Ambassador to protect Americans in Petrograd. Six Russan students were shot for aiding a conspiracy to overthrow the Bolshevik Government. FOREIGN OFFICE MOVED. EXODUS FROM PETROGRAD CONTINUES. Received 9.10, NEW YORK, March 7. The United Press Petrograd correspondent states the Foreign Office has been moved to Nijni-Novgorod. The civilian exodus from Petrograd continues. (Nijni-Novgorod is situated in Middle Russia, intersected by the rivers Volga and Oka.) SPLIT BETWEEN BOLSHEVIKS AND LENINISTS. Received 11.5. PETROGRAD MARCH 7. The differences are growing strongeri daily between the Leninists advo-. eating ratification of the peace terms and influential, Bolshevik groups mgnding refusal. There is a possibility of a split at the Moscow Congress.
