ARTILLERY DUELS

ON THE FRENCH FRONT.

LONDON, March 5

A French communique reports fairly violent artillery firing on the v ight hank of the Meuse in the region of Courieres and Chaume Woods, where a German attack was repulsed after a lively contest. An enemy attack at Chevalier’s Wood, in the same sector, was completely checked. A German raid on the American trenches in Lorraine was repulsed, the American patrols taking prisoners.

A German official report says: “Artillery duels are in progress on the eastern heights of the Meuse. We repulsed strong French detachments eastward of Mouilly.” .•. H- A FRENCH REPORT.
