The mother of a little Inniskiiling drummer boy, named Samuel Kidd, who resides in Londonderry, missing on August. 26, 1914, and a year later officially reported killed, has just re* eeived a letter from a Fernch lady, formerly of St. Quentin, stating that the lad was taken prisoner at St. Quentin on August 2S, 1914, but escaped, and tried to rejoin his regiment The place being surrounded by Germans, he took refuge in the lady’s house, where she and three sisters, who are dressmakers, kept him hidden for thirty months, until the evacuation of St. Quentin on March 6 last. Then he decided to surrender, and did, the letter states, "in spite of our tears and entreaties that he should stay.” Later he was sentenced to ten' years’ imprisonment because he refused to divulge the names of his benefactors
