TENNIS.
A general committee meeting of the Taihape Tennis Club was held in Mr. Ongley’s office last night. Mr. Ongley occupied the chair and there were present also: Mrs. Ongley, Miss Kennedy and Messrs C. E. Wilson, M. B. Kirschberg, F. Hintz and W. J. Munro (hon. secretary).
The balance sheet for 1916-17 season, duly audited by Mr. C. Masters, was presented. The books show that £2l has been paid' in subscriptions for the present season with about hhother £5 outstanding. Expenses and overdraft stand at £lB, whilst outstanding accounts for repairs to courts total £2O.
The secretary was instructed to interview Mr. T. Bason re repairs to courts and to report at next meeting.
The question of afternoon tea was left to Mrs. Ongley to arrange. Next Saturday will be bachelors’ afternoon t«a.
It was decided to write to the Mangaweka tennis club and ascertain if Saturday, 16th March, would suit for a return match.
Messrs R. Ongley, C. E. Wilson, and M. Kirschberg were appointed a selection committee for the season.
The question of the playing of singles when players are waiting for games was thoroughly ventilated, and Messrs Ongley, Kirschberg and Wilson were appointed a sub-commit-tee to draft local rules for the club.
The committe® are to arranv fours up to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, with the view of enabling all players, irrespective of merit, to obtain good sets.
