WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD. Compulsory Attendance at Technical and Continuation Classes. IN compliance with the request of the Taihape School Committee, ana with the sanction of the Minister of . Education, the Wanganui Education Board has decided to bring Clause 124 of the Education Act, 1914, into operation, fin the j Taihape. School District. Parents and ; Guardians r of 'young persons between the ages of 14 and 17 years, who have left school, and employers in whose employ such young persons may be,' are required to send, not later than Tuesday, March sth, 1918; to the Director of the Taihape Technical School, the names" and addresses (private or place of employment, as the case may be) of all such young persons. Commencing Monday March llth, 1913, such young persons are required to attend Continuation Classes at the Technical School; the girls" for not less than four hours on one afternoon, or two hours on two evenings per week, and the boys for not more than five hours in each wees during the school year, the hours of attendance to be arranged with the Director of the Technical School. Under the provision of the Education Act, 1914, if any person knowingly employs a young person at any time (other than the ordinary hours of employment) when his attendance is by Regulation required at a Continuation or a Technical Class, he shall be liable to a fine not'exceeding £2 and not less than ss, or in the case of a second subsequent offence, whether relating to the same cr another

young person, not exceeding £5. Any parent of a young person who does not regularly attend a Technical School or a class or classes as required by Regulations, is liable to the like penalties as aforesaid... Where complaint is made to a Magistrate that any young person required by regulation to attend has been guilty of gross misconduct, or habitual disobedience, the Magistrate may, after such inquiry as he thinks fit, require the parent cf the young person to enter into a recognisance to the satisfaction of the Magistrate for the good behaviour of the young person for the remainder of the period during which he is required to attend as aforesaid. Notices of enrolment should be forwarded to the Director of the Technical Schccl without delay and all young persons referred to in the above must present themselves at the | school on Monday, March 11th, 191$ j for enrolment.
