AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

AUSTRALIA’S MEDICALLY UNFITS. THOUSANDS REJECTED IN ENGLAND. INQUIEI3S TO. BE MADE. Received 9.10. MELBOURNE, this day,

Of the 49,751 members returned of the Expeditionary Force returned to the Commonwealth to December 31st last, 10,333 saw no service, having failed to pass the standard set by the medical authorities in England, and were sent back unfit. The Minister of Defence is perplexed at this result of conflicting opinions as to the medical standard on the grounds of the cost of sending and the detrimental effect on recruiting. This condition cannot be allowed to continue, and the Minister has approved of sending the DirectorGeneral of Medical Services, assisted by other exports, to England and France to fully investigate.
