RANGITIKEI A. & P. ASSOCIATION.
ANGLER SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION.
There was a record enthusiasm displayed from early this morning In the Seventh Annual Show of the Rangititei A. and P. Show. On no previous occasion was there such an interested attendance, which by 11 o’clock had grown to large dimensions. There are on the ground all the usual side shows, merry-go-rounds and games of skill, and the ground presents quite a gala day appearance. The committee stewards deserve utmost compliments for the thorough way they have prepared both grounds and pens for stock. The entries are large, and although some exhibitors at previous Taihape shows are not represented the quality is uniformly good, which will cause some trouble to adjudicators. The exhibition of cattle is extraordinarily good, and much larger than in previous years. If this is to continue special pens of a permanent nature will have to be constructed In some suitable spot than they at present occupy. Sight-seers and visitors do not see the great work that Is required every year to convert a recreation ground into a suitable agricultural show ground, and every praise is due to the Association and its officials for the splendidly convenient transformations they have made.
From long before daylight Mr. J. H. Missen was at work receiving • and penning stock, and the excellence and thoroughness of his work is reflected in the well-filled, wellarranged sheep exhibits. The secretary, Mr. A. M. Ryan, has his work well in hand and he was from early morning devoting his time to doing that work and giving his time to enquiries which only the competent secretary can do. The Taihape municipal brass band is on the ground, discoursing highly appreciated music. Judging in the various glasses was not quite finished as we went to press, and the complete prize list will be published to-morrow. The luncheon and afternoon tea booth is in the keeping of the Taihape Women’s Working Club, and its members appear to be doing a thriving business. That useful and muchappreciated. institution, the Plunket Society, has a mothers’ rest tent on the ground, over which Nurse Parlane presiding. By this thoughtful provision many mothers have been enabled to take a day’s outing. As the day advances, the attendance is grow-* ing larger, and present indications point to a record in that respect. THE PRIZE LIST./ Most of the prizes in fat sheep have been taken by Messrs W. Reid and Son, Felding, Mr. ‘A. K. Overton, and Mr. D. Scott just managing to appear as prize-takers.
In fat lambs, Mr. H. D. Bennett certainly made the best showing, taking all the prizes in some classes.
Very nearly all the prizes for pigs went to Mr. J. T. Taylor, of Piriaka. Mr. J. McKeown, Taihape, took first for Devon boar, over 12 months, and second for crossbred sow with litter of not less than six.
In fat cattle Mr. E.. Spooner took first and second for cow or heifer. S. S. Timbs first and J. Bartosh second for three steers under three years.. For steers over three years Mr. E. Spooner beat Mr. Timbs for first place. Mr. Spooner also beat Mr Timbs for best freezing bullock. In fat Freisian/bullock Mr. Timbs turned the ,taWtes, but Mr. Spooner took 2 and 3. M#*A. K. Overton took first for thre store steers. This completes the judging as we go to press; the full prize list will appear in to-morrow’s issue.
