There is a striking instance in this district (says the Eltham Argus) which illustrates in an almost startling manenr how girls have talren up the work of men in agricultural matters. We know of an instance in which a girl of about 17 years of age has assisted her father with his shearing, and she herself has shorn 400 sheep this season. She has not done her work with a machine, but "off the blades." Now that it has been proved that girls can shear, we wait for the next discovery. A de P ut % ion from the Protestant '.Political Association waited upon the Minister of Justice regarding the assaults on clergymen who were apparently mistaken for the Rev. Howard Elliott, at Feilding. The Hon. Mr. . Wilford said he had issued instruc- > tions that steps were to be taken for J the discovery of the assailants Any charges would be indictable ,Rnd would heard in the Supreme Court. The deputation suggested ffeat the assault arose out of the assault on Mr. Elliott at Auckland. It was said that the statement made by Mr. Fraser, S.M., was practicaly an incitement to a section of the community that they could go on doing that kind of thing.
