At the resumption of the public sittings of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, after meeting in a secret committees for five days, General Alfieri, the Sinister of War, said: "It is necessary to repeat in public what has been said in the secret committee concerning our brave soldiers now fighting between the Brenta and the Piave, tinually increasing. What is happening there is simply marvellous and the extent of their heroic defence has been underestimated rather than exagger--for whom our admiration is conated. It has been said that Mount Grappa is our Verdun. This comparison itself is a glory. The youngest sons of Italy have been for many days victoriouly opposing in hastily improvised positions and in heroic coun-*ter-attaek.s the best troops of the enemy flushed with victory and superior in numbers. Our country is now inscribing up there with the blood of its soldiers the most glorious page in the history of the world. Permit me to send in your name and in the name of the country the whole-hearted grati- . tude and admiration of Italy to the glorious Fourth Army, to the heroic defenders of the Piave and the Asiago plateau, to the troops of the allies now in the line- and fighting side by side with our own soldiers, and also to our brave commender-in-chief.''
