THE NECESSITY FOR ECONOMY.

Speaking at the half-yearly meeting of the shareholders of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, Ltd., a few days ago, Mr. G. J. Cohen, chairman of directors, said that six months ago he called the attention of the community to the necessity of economy to enable the country to bear the burden of debt caused by the war. "I regret," he said, "that so far there is no evidence of any serious attempt at economy by the people. Extravagance is only too apparent everywhere, and in every form, and unfortunately seoms to be on the increase. That strict economy will sooner o? later be forced on the community Is clear to everyone versed in financial matters, and the sooner the public can be made to realise this the better it will be for the country."
