FERTILE EAST AFRICA
TO DEVELOP THE LAND. LONDON, February/.^ Ecuter's corespondent at Nairobi, the capital of British East. African, Protectorate, says that a mass meeting passed a resolution enthusiastically and unanimously requesting the Imperial Government to appoint MajorGeneral Sir Percy Girouard, formerly Governor of the protectorate, as Military Governor of British East Africa during the period of the war, with powers to organise the colony's efforts in the direction of "utilising such portion of its population as are unavailable to do military duty to develop its immense potential energies and resources in the immediate production of commodities which are urgently required." Mr. E. S. Grogna, Lord Delamere, and others emphasised the urgent necessity for organising the entire resources of the protectorate in order to provide for the immediate rcqiurements of Mesopotamia and Palestine, in this way saving shipping, and subsequently contributing food' and other necessities. It was said that there were millions of acres oflhe finest land in the world available in East Africa for settlement by the Empire's war-worn soldiers
