TRAINING BOYS FOR FARM WORK.
Speaking of the new scheme for the establishment of a boy’s training farm in tb e Albert Street Hall, Auckland on Sunday, said that the Salvation Army were embarking on a new departure, and it rested with every nation to train as farmers boys too young to become soldiers. That was owing to the conditions brought about by the war. Regarding the proposed farm, the land would be converted into a general training farm for boys,, preference being given to the sons of fallen soldiers. The idea is to secure boys between the ages of 14 and 18 years, give them a thorough sound 'training in all branches of farm life and for those who showed particular aptitude there was a possibility of the “Army” starting them on their own account. With a sound training of about four years it was considered that the boys would turn out good farm labourers.
