At the bloodstock sales at Newmarket, England, prices were lower than have 'ever been recorded. Horses sold for as little as tw r o guineas each and three, four and five guineas w r ere common prices. These figures, •which reflect the uncertainty of racing, entailed a serious loss to breeders.
