RANGIWAEA NOTES.
In my last notes I spoke of the splendid condition of the roads in this district, but I was somewhat pre-mat-ure, for the severe storm, which occurred last week, did very serious damage to them. In one area alone the roads wore blocked with noMess than fourteen slips varying in width from a few yards to almost a chain, whilst in several places the fences were left hanging, .in raid-air. It is very unfortunate for it will bo some several months before the roads can bo restored to such good condition again. The Ford across the Turakena to the Kaimatawi Road is blocked by a large tree which has been floated down, whilst several bridges have been washed away by the various streams when in flood.
Stock is beginning to move, but it is rather early as yet for any large sales, although the buyers have bought several small lots which have averaged very fair prices.
Now that the bush is burnt the settlers have been busy sowing down seed to be ready for wintering their stock. Miss F. Pedersen has left for lona College, whilst Misses G. and 801 l and Iv. Strachan have proceeded to the Wanganui Girls’ College. Mr. and Mrs. Frew, have motored through to the Feilding Show.
