ALIEN AGGREGATORS.
At a meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association in Palmerston, Mr Haycock said that it had como to the notice of the Association that in certain places aliens were purchasing large blocks of land. If this were so, the Association should protest against it, as there was really too much land purchasing by individuals who were left behind whilst others went to the war. Some of it was taking place quite close to their own town. He moved that headquarters of the Association be asked to go into the matter thoroughly of Government granting the right to aliens to acquire the freehold and to hold land. and that the Association is of the opinion that more stringent regulations should be drafted in reference to the control of same; also that the Association is of the opinion that a great deal of aggregation is going on throughout the Dominion to the cost and detriment of the men at the front. The motion was i)assed. And yet Premier Massey says the law makes it impossible for alien enemies to acquire land.
