The Eltham Argus states that quite recently- an Australian syndicate has captured one of our splendid whit© pine forests, and thus another blow Is dealt at the future prosperity, of New: Zealand cheese and butter-makers, The latest capture by Australians means thousands of acres and millions of feet of the timber that is of such value to 'the Dominion and it is a pity to see if exploited for the advantage of a neighbour who, by her fiscal policy, shuts New Zealand out of her markets. The recent Australian success was achieved by slightly outbidding the local institution, the Egmont Box Company; and now nearly all those million feet of valuable timber are lost to the Dominion, and the day hastened when" New Zealand producers will have their energy and pockets taxed to make Sood the loss.
