LORD NORTHCLIFFE REJOICES

IN YOUTH

Paris, December 1

Lord Northcliffe to-day refered in glowing terms to the American mission to the Allied conference and its worth, repeating what he said a few days ago about Colonel House’s wisdom. Concerning the junior members he remarked: —

“The American Mission is suffering from the right kind of dissease —youth I dare say that there are those who would like to see their placesnued by lean and slippered pantaloons, with long beards, but I like the youngsters best for results. I have been in daily contact with them at the conference, and those I deal with are live wires, fully charged. Colonel House has reduced the vast assemblage of Allied nations to a series of. small business committees, and thus hot air was entirely eliminated from the. start, i canont reveal the conference secrets, but when I looked at the gildec chamber where it first met, and realised that every man was loaded with a speech, my heart went out in gratitude to the wise Colonel, who had dammed flood. As it was, Premier, Clemenceau, in his openmg remarks, took less than two minutes, and soon our meeting broke up, and everybody settled to work ”
