MAN-POWER QUESTION.
COLONEL REPIGTON’S VIEWS
LONDON, Jan 24
Colonel Repington, in an article in the “Morning Post,” criticises the Government’s man-power proposals. "He states that the Germans alone have accumulated 165 divisions He estimates 200 to 220 divisions will eventually be thrown against the 'AngloFrench, although the enemy may attack before their concentrations are complete, in order to forestall the arrival of the Americans. He expects the arrival of Austrians, of whom some arc already in Belgium. The British casualties during the war period were only a little higher than the French dead. The British need at least 880,000 men. In addition to 450,000 already in view, 100,000 should be withdrawn from a distant campaign—notable Salonika. By combing out, the Army should be increased by 320,000. Conscription, extending to Ireland, would yield 200,000.
