KING'S THEATRE. Sumptuous scenes of the gathering places of ttie Russian aristocracy open the splendid World Film dvuinu. '■The Angel of Mercy/' starring Alice. Brady, which is screening at tiie King's to-night only. The Russian atmosphere is almost miraculous, the cast being chosen to number of foreign men who give the film great distinction. The story has one of the best plots that have lately beer, written, and the action never lags for one moment. The heroine is a young violinist whoso brother is a writer slowly becoming en'tanglcd in the 2s'ihilist movement. He loves and secretly marries a lovely young aristociat, and the heroine is adored by a splendid type of Russian noble. The whole tragedy of the four lives is caused by the scheming and ambitious parents The play affords 4 vivid glimpses of the violence and wickedness of the despotism which was the curse of Russia. In one scene, the girl violln.6i refuses to play the Russian National Anthem, and she is beaten with the lash. The central incident of the play is the seizure and trial of the violinist and her lover # The vindictive chief of police springs at an opportunity for cruel revenge, before he is displaced by the lover's father at midnight. The ever-popular Charlie Chaplin appears in a 2000 ft comedy, "Behind the Screen," and Topical Budget makes a first class programme.
EVERYBODY'S. The excellence of the films shown at Everybody's is now an established fact, and they become increasingly attractive To-morrow, two subjects, which in every way deserve to be styled super-productions, will be shewn, "The Dummy," and "Redeeming Love." The former is a Famous Players production, featuring that rising young artist, Jack Pickford, while the latter is a Pallas production, in which the wonderful actress, .Vivian Martin has a part that she fairly revels in. In each are observable thai excellc:ic? in p reductions, delightful photography, lavish mounting and attention to detail that have made the productions of these firms such genuine favourites with all classes or
picture patrons. "The Dummy" will be "Shown at the matinee.
