LABOUR AND THE WAR. SOCIALIST PREMISES RAIDED. .Received 8.40. LONDON. Jan 23. Sir G. Cave, replying to Mr C. R. Trevelyan (member for Elland), said the police raided the premises of the British Socialist Party and seized leaflets intended for distribution at the Labour Conference, Nottingham, containing party’s views Labour’s policy, and a message from Litoff. The leaflets contained statements calculated to lead to civil strife and gross misrepresentation of the Government’s attitude towards the Russian people. The Government is considering a prosecution. He denied that a person claiming to represent a foreign Government was at liberty to engage in propaganda in this 'country.

STRONG PRO-WAR TONE ASSURED.

The annual Labour Party Conference to be held at Nottingham on the 23rd inst., will bo one of the most important in history. There will be a thousand delegates present. The agenda paper include'? a resolution withdrawing from the Government. Another demands an early election, and a strong pro-war tone is assured.

At a meeting in connection with the Labour Conference accorded to Litvinoff, the Russian Ambassador, he received a tremendous reception. r?e denied that the Bolsheviks had usurped power like conspirators. If they had been a lot of adventurers they would have been swept away by the people long ago. More history had been made at Brest Litovsk than during the three years of war. He did not believe the German people would continue to shed blood for the benefit of capitalists. The Russian revolution -was a revolution against war. If peace did not result from the Brest Litovsk. conference a revolution In Germany would become an immediate possibility. -y
