“WHEAT OR MEAT?”
STATEMENT BY BRITISH EXPERT
SYDNEY, Jan 23
The question of wheat or meat production is occupying a considerable amount of attention. Contrary to Mr Ashford’s advice. Professor Lefroy, the Government’s meat representative, told a conference of producers that it would be sound policy for Australia to cultivate the largest stock of gvheat possible. He said there would be a most terrific food shortage after the war. Wheat can be saved from, weevils if stored properly, and would keep indefinitely—h e guaranteed at least five years.
FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND.
ROCKHAMPTON ISOLATED
BRISBANE, Jan 23.
The .floods are extending. Rockhampton is isolated, and traffic is suspended. Anxiety is felt as to the fat© of many settlers. Boats have been despatched.
