TAIHAPE ENTERPRISE.

MARSH AND MILLER’S FOUNDRY

The Taihape Foundry anu Engineering Works are already widely famed for the enterprise of their proprietors. Time was when much of the engineering and foundry work of this district had to be passed on to Wellington, now, however, the requirements of an ever-widening territory are met at the Taihape" works'. Messrs Marsh and Miller are keeping these workshops in the front rank of engineering works of the Dominion. Immediately any new invention or improvement to give greater speed in the execution of work, or to widen the usefulness of their business,“lid matter what the cost Messrs Marsh and Miller have it installed in the Taihape Foundry. They have saved sawmillers and others hundreds of pounds from loss of time by breakages by the installation of an oxy-acetone welding plant, which as rapidly and as strongly welds together a cast-iron shaft or wheel as it does those of wTought iron. The latest addition is an oxyacetone cutter. This new appliance was used in Taihape the first time this morning in cutting some large, massive plates of steel into bridge plates for the Rangitikei County Council. It is nothing short of marvellous to see one man cut steel in an hour that, with the old laborious, cumbersome method, would have taken two men a day and a-half, but such is now the case. A representative of this journal chanced to call in just as a cut four feet long was being commenced, and in just eight minutes tfie two pieces fell apart. Messrs Marsh and Miller are, by their enterprise, not only equipping their works' For doing a far greater amount of work in a given time, but they are also able to keep their charges below what old methods necessitated. It is truly wonderful to see steel plate an inch thick cut almost as quickly as cardboard can be cut with scissors. Messrs Miller and Marsh can cut and weld anything They can cut - a cast-iron plg» trough in two, put new ends in and make into two. They can rapidly cut a piece off, or put a piece on to any- ! thing of metal, no matter how large. They are certainly keeping the Taihape Foundry quite up-to-date, and In so . doing they are earning the congratulations of the whole district.
