The American Consul-General • in Sydney, Mr J. J Brittain, has received from Mr Henry W. Davidson, chairman of the American Red Cross War Council in Washington, a cable couched in these terms: —“As a result of the Christmas drive for membership in the American Red Cross some 16,000,000 new members have been enrolled, bringing the total membership to, approximately 22,000,000..’’ The cablegoes on to say that this gives evidence of the united spirit of the American people to provide for and. protect their boys and to lend aid to their allies, .both soldiers and civilians. . . . . - -
