GERMANY’S TROUBLES.
GERMANY FROM WITHIN, WHOLE COUNTRY BLIGHTED. LONDON, January 8. People repatriated from Germany are of the opinion that the whole country is blighted. During a Journey of twenty-six hours they only saw chimneys whence smoke was coming. Nothing was sold In the streets. All life seemed to be susojaded. The male population was on the fighting fronts and the women Ml children remained within unheated ml unligbt«-d houses. Germany was standing the hunger test patiently. Her endurance may last a long time yet. There was no doubt Germany -was short of food. The prisoners guards would pounce on bits in the swdll tubs at British camps Many towrns were in darkness owing to coal shortage. Women were employed on railways as platelayers and firemen. There was much Socialistic talk among soldiers w r ho described the war as mere folly.
KTJHLMANN FALLS FROM FAVOUR LONDON, Jan 9. A Berlin telegram states that although the Brest Litovsk conference continues, Dr Kuhlmann’s position is considered untenable. He has lost favour with the Kaiser, Hindenburg. and the General Staff. His resignation is probable
