The Taihape Daily Times. AND WAIMARINO ADVOCATE

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1918. BRITISH BOLSHEVIKS

(With which is incorporated The Tainape Post and Waimarino News).

Since the commencement of war socialism seems ro have thriven in

.lost countries involved in tie war. In •.meric a, where a display of the socialistic forces might have been expected, little is heard of them. On examination it appears that it is not correct to state that the socialistic cult has gained much ground. It is true that there are a greater proportion of them in the various home communities who are making themselves more conspicuous in the national life, but. this is because they have stayed at home while all patriots have gone into the fighting line. The strikes and howls of these B'ritish Bolsheviks -arise from their innate uselessness. Workers arc earning as much as thirty pounds a Aveek, and yet these leeches upon workers actually do succeed in persuading men to strike. The object, of course, is to harass the Government and render the conduct of the Avar difficult and doubtful of success. These men, true to the training they receive from their German masters Avill neither fight or work, nor will they alloAV others to do either if they can prevent it_ It is pitidble to see othenvise intelligent men join a faction and because the self-appointed leaders of these factions shout disloyalty and sedition they respond with “hurrah.” Socialists in New Zealand, like sheep, folloAV or adopt anything and everything said or done by socialists in Britain, and socialists in Britain, Avhether those Avho listen to socialists believe it or not, are just foiloA'ing in the footsteps of tin Russian Bolsheviks. Let every man, hv all means, have his opinion of social and political conditions let him have his opinion of the conduct of the war and of the Avar aims of all ‘belligerents, but let it not bo said that Ncaa' Zealanders took their opinions from those made in Germany. There are men in all countries who, by nature, cannbt help abandoning themselves to crime, and are we not in danger of ail becoming criminals in allowing such men to lead, for surely there °is no greater crime than a disloyalty that would put our country into the banes and power of our enemies. If these rabid self-styled reformers Avere working in the interests of their own country they would most assuredly first win the war; they would repel the invader, the would-be enslaver of their pretended brothers, and Avhen that danger was past they would sot about domestic improvement. The fact is the methods of so-called socialists are self-condemnatory; it is obvious that they operate in favour of foreign autocracy and to the enslavement of the victims to their seductive talk about confiscation and diversion of the earnings and savings of others. The men in Britain who' are hampering and hindering the conduct of the war have earned for themselves the name of “British Bolsheviks.” Why? Because there is overwhelming documentary proof that Germany organised in Switzerland, the heterogenous pack uoav operating in Russia; that Germany financed through Lenin the

scheme that seems to be working with

doubtful success; that Germany provided special trains and transported the Lenin gang of cut-throats and plunderers across Germany in luxury, and opened a constant stream of money, paper and otherwise, to keep the campaign of treachery and murder active that was destined to render all Russia an inert mass, and place it entirely in the hands of Russia’s natural enemy. When Lenin said he would bring all the Allies to his feet, he knew his German masters had purchased the conscience of traitors who are still leading labour in Britain, her dominions, as well as in the countries of other Allies. Lenin could appreciate how thorough and farreaching Germany’s contemptible methods were, and how successful they had become. It was remarkable that with the outburst of Leninism, Mr Henderson was guilty of very

questionable behaviour which reiultv

ed his resignation from the British

Jabinet a necessit}-, his actions being quite incompatible with the position. Air Henderson went to Russia in Britain’s interests, but it is well-known that he lived in a Bolshevik atmosphere the whole time he was there. On his return to Britain, he, with other British Bolsheviks commenced organising an upheaval that could mve no other purpose than to make

■he British Government's conduct ot the war more difficult by bringing about an extension of labour defee tion that would render the supply of shells and munitions to our men in ■he trenches inadequate for their pro Lection let alone wherewith to win :he war. Henderson and his associ- ■ tes have earned the name of Britis' lolsheviks because they are working ,'ii almost precisely similar lines to he Russian Bolsheviks, the lines aid down to Lenin and his associates >y their German masters, in the tui-

'on and organisation in Switzerland. The Labour Reconstruction Memorandum engineered by Henderson is being criticised by the Press of Great Britain, and it is pointed out that in essentials it most remarkably resembles the Bolshevik programme, a programme drawn up by Germany, promulgated by Germany’s agents and with German money. Socialists in New Zealand who ax& sincere in their protestations of concern for the masses of the people can have no better weapon wherewith to achieve all that is desirable than the franchise Every man and women in our land has a voice in the election of men to snake our laws, hut this is of only secondary value to them; they Have to pursue the programme emanating from Germany. The men they want must jeer at British law, and it is something in their favour if they have served a term of imprisonment for sedition and disloyalty. We trust that labour in this country will stand by the enaction of laws, and the administration of laws, that will result in a huge increase of production, by which only can there be more money to circulate; that every semblance of class law will be removed from the Statute hook that permits trusts, syndicates, and combines to rob the people of what is theirs by right. A sane exorcise of the power already possessed can he made to bring about greater and more beneficent social improvement in a less time than any revolutionary methods urged by British Bolsheviks. Revolution and even industrial unrest is fatal to the cause of the masses, but the people have their cause in their own keeping. Instead of endlessly contributing to the upkeep of leaders with Bolshevik revolutionary tendencies, let the people employ men to organise their forces 'To operate at the ballot box. The Bol-shevik-German programme is to destroy, that which is essential to us is one that will build up, fESt~wlll increase prosperity and entirely end profiteering.
