TAIHAPE FIRE BRIGADE.

The usual monuAy meeting of the* Taihape Fire Brigade; was held last night. Oaptamvxeeiu in the chair. Wv A letter was received from the cretary of the United Districts hire Brigade Association, stating that the invitation to hoid the annual demon-

stration and conference in Taihape •had been accepted. The secretary also provided certain information and data to assist the local brigade in arranging for the demonstration. Among the trophies to be competed for are the Greathead Shield (five men event), McMillan Shield (hose, hydrant and union, five men), Supply Company's Shield (low pressure events), Licensed Victuallers’ AssociChallenge Trophy (coupling championship, two men). A committee from the Tradesmen’s Association, consisting of Merrs Gardner,‘Neagle, and Evans, was in attendance, and went carefully into the matter of making arrangements for the forthcoming demonstration. After consultation with the executive of the brigade a tentative programme was drawn up with prize money aggregating some £llO, which will be submitted to the Tradesmens Association for consideration. Y Private Corki’l, who is a member or the Brigade, and has .just returned from the front, took his seat at the table, and was welcomed in real fire brigade fashion by the members^ Mcssrs H. W. Hartley and J. Cameron were proposed and unanimously elected members of the Brigade, the Captain ■welcoming them in a few appropriate words. The question of procuring the Honours Beard was reported on, the matter being referred back to the committee (with the addition of Fireman Strong) to take necessary steps. The Canvassing Committee reported that an additional £5 4s 6d had been collected, bringing the total up to approximately £42. Brauchman Mathie reported that the fire alarms were not working satisfactorily, the trouble lying in the batteries. The matter was to be reported to the Borough Electrical Engineer.

It was decided to request the Borough Council to renovate the meeting, room of the Fire Station.

A special meeting of brigade members is to be held on Friday evening, next to arrange for teams for the competitions at the forthcoming Stratton,

Service medals are to he presented to two members of the Brigade at a special function on Tuesday evening.’

Firemen Strudwick and McClure were detailed for Town Hall duty, for the month.
