ANOTHER CLAUSE IN GERMAN
TERMS.
PETROGRAD, January 5.
•' Germany's peace terms include a clause providing for mutual ''most -favoured nation" treatment, as regards trade and navigation for twenty years. Nevertheless each party reserves to itself the right of ially intimate commercial agreements, for instance, between Austria and Germany or between Russia and neighbouring Asiatic countries or independent States formed out of Russia.
STATEMENT BY GERMAN CHAN-
CELLOR.
AMSTERDAM, Jan 5,
In the Reichstag tie Chancellor announced that Von Dembussche, Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, would report upon the peace negotiations, after which the Government and the Reichstag would confidentially discuss the matter and make weighty and fateful decisions.
' The speech gave no details. Only a brief report of the discussion was permitted. The report contained a declaration by the Centre Deputy that the present constitutional bodies In Courland, Poland and Lithuania were fully entitled to express the people's will as regards the destiny of these territories. The report also contained some mild Socialist criticism.
PROPOSED TRANSFER OF CONFERENCE.
PETROGRAD, Jan 5
The President of the Russian peace delegation telegraphed the AusffoGerman, Turkish, and Bulgarian delegations as follows: The Government considers it urgent to immediately conduct peace pourparlers in neutral territory, and proposes to transfer them to Stockholm. The delegation awaits a reply.
GERMANY REJECTS PROPOSAL.
AMSTERDAM, Jan 6
In the Reichstag the Chancellor Stated that Germany had rejected the Russian proposal to transfer negotiations to Stockholm. Regarding Russia's declaration that she could not accept the terms regarding the evacuation of territories and a plebiscite in connection with same, tn 3 Chancellor said: We can cheerfully rely upoi our strong position, . ~»»
The Chancellor confirmed Germany's intention to negotiatte with t'ae Ukraine plenipotentiaries.
